A Practice in Listening to the Inner Voice of Love

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff—
they comfort me.

—Psalm 23:4

Beloved,

Make peace with your hardships. In making peace, you will discover that you can find a home even in the valleys you walk through.

Look at my beloved Mary Oliver. She connected to nature in order to survive her chaotic childhood. As an adult, she went for long walks to scavenge for food. This time apart became one of her meditation practices. It was how she communed with the Divine and resulted in some of her most meaningful poetry.

When you walk through the darkest valley, take a look around. See what is there. Pay attention to the sights, textures, and sounds. The valley’s long shadows and deep crevices can heighten your senses to my presence and unexpected revelations.

Your walks through the valley can lead to a greater opening of your own heart. They can give you time and space to explore your existence and what matters to you. The valley can lead to greater self-acceptance and compassion for yourself and the world around you.

As you walk with me, the valley may become the environment that cultivates your richest offerings to the world.
