Finding a Home in God

A Practice in Listening to the Inner Voice of Love
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
my whole life long.—Psalm 23:5-6
Beloved,
Establishing a home on earth can be a precarious pursuit. Yet it is innately human to desire. People find homes in their houses, relationships, families, and churches. They are seeking settled places of being known, belonging, and supported.
But what happens when something disrupts the home you have created? What happens when you move, a relationship ends, a family is fractured, or a church discontinues?
You will always have a home in me. No matter what happens or changes in your life’s circumstances, I offer you indwelling safety and the consistency of my presence. My goodness and mercy are your constant companions—they are available to you every day, every moment, of your life.
There will never be a physical location or relationship that completely satisfies your longing for home. But my Spirit has made a home in you. And one day you will be fully at home in God.
Dwell in me as my Spirit dwells in you. Then you will have a home your whole life long.
