Discovering Your Wholeness

A Practice in Listening to the Inner Voice of Love
In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.”
—Luke 1:39-45
Beloved,
When you are lacking something you have desired in life (a partner, children, meaningful work, livable income) it can feel like a void. The absence of what you are longing for can feel like an empty space inside of you. You may lament your barrenness and grieve what you haven’t been given.
While your pain is real, you are inherently whole. There is nothing lacking inside of you. The things you are waiting for can help cultivate my shalom (wholeness, wellbeing, peace). A job can enable you to produce good fruit; children can bring you joy. But a job, partner, or income cannot add or detract from your core essence. Your wholeness is innate; I have planted it deep inside you.
In times of lack, discover my wholeness already embodied in your being. Use this time of feeling empty to nurture my shalom, investing your efforts and energy into eternity. When you shift your focus to eternity I can fulfill my promises, not only to you, but also through you. I can move through you to cultivate shalom all around you, delivering my promises to all I have created.
